As the smoke is beginning to clear on the Shirley Sherrod incident I think that it’s important that we used this moment to really do some looking at where we are now when it comes to the media and the stories that we read in the media. There are three things that stick out on this whole thing.

1. The Teaparty blogger Andrew Breitbart should NOT be getting a pass from ANYONE on what he did. These bloggers like Andrew who purposely slice and dice information and put it on their websites and then say after the fact that he did not mean for what happened to happened to her. This is crazy and should not be gotten away with. His excuse that he was trying to show that the people in the audience were racist is also just as stupid and not true.

2. Conservative talk show host Michael Medved said today on his talk show (while trying to diss the Obama administration) that even he is wise enough not to take everything Fox news says as the truth so why would the Obama administration listen to Fox. In fact Fox news has been doing this for a long time now. If you think this is bad you should see the hatchet job that Glenn Beck did on Churches who preach Liberation and Social Justice. Taking random quotes out of context to form a incorrect assessment and then teaching people to be against that assessment. As one commentator said, what you hear on FOX news and right wing websites is a PERVERSION of journalism and feeds the worst fears of conservatives.

3. This part is going to hurt for me to write.. It hurts because I am a Big Barack Supporter and I hate to say things negative. But I have noticed a disturbing trend about our President that concerns me. I believe Barack’s way of dealing with race has been shaped by the Jeremiah Wright incident that happened in 2008. As Frederick D Haynes pointed out Jeremiah Wright was definitely taken out of context and Barack tried to stick up from his spiritual (not political) advisor but it ended up almost derailing his campaign. Now I do not think that Jeremiah Wright is the same as Shirley Sherrod there is a difference. Jeremiah Wright is a preacher and a man out of the prophetic tradition..You cannot be a Preacher and not be controversial. So therefore Barack had to do something that hurt him he threw Dr. Wright under the proverbial bus. And truthfully I understand what he did.. He had to do it.. He would not have been elected if he didn’t.

BUT NOW… my fear is that just like a man who gets used to something – that he is turning into someone who is SCARED of the people that hate him..When Glenn Beck barked, He threw Van Jones under the bus..When Fox news put up trumped up stories..ACORN went under the bus… and now that that The Teaparty barked here he sat back while Shirley Sherrod got thrown under the bus.

Barack still has my support with everything that I have… But I hope to God that we stop giving these Tea Party haters and Fox news any POWER and that we start fighting back against them. Not allow good people to be thrown under the bus.
