RIP Tony D. – Producer of Poor Righteous Teachers

This was a little unreal for me as I recently purchased a book off Amazon titled “Check the Technique” by Brian Coleman, well I decided to buy a used copy that in the description said it was signed by some of the artists that were interviewed. It was listed as a collectors item. Well after a week or so it came in the mail, and there was a tape sealed envelope in the package with some handwriting on the outside of it. The seller mentioned that he was unaware of a crease in the book cover, and he included a CD titled ‘Rare and Unreleased’ by PRT, which apparently came out in 2006. Anyway, the note was signed by Tony D, and he made mention that he was the producer of PRT. I knew who the group was because I grew up on their music, but as a shorty, I didn’t know who their producer was. So after reading that note and seeing that the author made the autograph out to Tony D. I looked up his myspace to get a visual and read up on him, including jumping to the PRT chapter of the book to see what was said.

Well, not even after 2 weeks of receiving this book and CD, I find out that Tony D. was killed in a fatal car accident on April 4th 2009. According to NJ.com, Tony Depula “lost control of his car at 6:20 p.m. The 2002 purple Jeep went up over the curb and struck a fence, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its passenger side. Depula was unconscious at the scene and was transported to Capital Health Systems at Fuld, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. He was not wearing a seat belt and sustained an injury to his neck.” He was 42, married, with young children.

My heart and condolences goes out to the family and friends of Tony D.
